Samantha Shaw on Vacation…

I'm getting a lot of really nice fan mail (thanks!) that is asking me when the next Samantha Shaw book will be out.

I don't know.

I'm so sorry! This is the way of publishing sometimes. I have several books under contract at the moment, so we are giving Sam and the gang a little vacation. I'm sure by the time I get to write the next book, she will be in all kinds of trouble and expect me to sort it out.

I really loved writing THILLED TO DEATH! (See a really nice review here.) Sam has grown a great deal since the first book DATING CAN BE MURDER. For those of you who have asked, here's the list of the books in the series, in order:

1) DATING CAN BE MURDER
2) DYING TO MEET YOU
3) NINJA SOCCER MOMS
4) BATTERIES REQUIRED
5) THRILLED TO DEATH

I also get a lot of email about Gabe and Detective Vance. Gabe is Sam's very HOT boyfriend, while Vance is the sexy detective whom she has a love/hate relationship with. My email runs about 2 to 1 in favor of staying with Gabe, but there's a growing group of fans who think Vance has a shot with her. So do I know what Sam's going to do in the future?

Nope. Let me rephrase that—I think I know, but half way into writing every book, the characters take over and I often find out that they have better ideas than I do. It's a little hard on my ego, but I usually give in and do it their way.

So while Sam's on vacation, I'm working on some sexy romantic mysteries. The first one will be in January 2007. I haven't gotten the final okay on the title, but as soon as I do, I'll let you all know.

Happy Reading!

Samantha is a great character.

She realizes what has gone wrong in her life and takes steps to make a better life for herself and her sons. She takes time to think of her own self esteem. Which is a challenge for her. She has set personal goals and is determined to meet those goals.

She has a wonderful relationship with Gabe. It isn't perfect but they work through their issues. He is perfect for her in every way.

I would like to see at least one more book. Something that ties up Sam and Gabe's relationship loose ends into a pretty little bow.

Still, I can't help it, I keep expecting a love triangle between Sam, Gabe and Det. Vance.

What possibilities!

We'll miss her while she's on hiatus. But you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Besides, I'm dying to see what you're cooking up next!

Hi Marie, and thanks! Sam is a lot of fun to write about. I do have one book left under contract, it's just a matter of when the book will be shuffled into my, and the publisher's, schedule.

Hey Dana, I'm going to share more about my next book as soon as I get the okay from my publisher. My editor is so busy--I don't know how they juggle so much work!

This will give me time to get all five books read. That is right after I write letters of protest, picket, and then boycott the local store with the largest book selection for not carring your books.
