What's In A Name?

Why does the press name bank robbers? Irreconcilable Differences was the name I heard last night. Does that sound like a bank robber to you? If the press insists on naming them, I think there should be some rules:

1) The name should indicate it's a CRIMINAL not a LAWYER. Irreconcilable Differences sounds like a lawyer. Okay, yeah, some people think lawyers are criminal, but still...make the name fit.

2) They are not allowed to use the name BARBIE. Just because it annoys me on so many levels. I never played with Barbies when I was a kid, but I don't remember her ever having a bank robbing wardrobe. Besides you just KNOW it's a man naming the female bank robber that. Even in crime women just can't get respect!

Any rules you'd like to add?

In Arizona we recently had a couple of pretty big criminals arrested last year. We had "The Baseline Rapist" and "The Serial Shooters". Can you guess what they were doing wrong? I think if you're going to name a criminal it should be a name that has something to do with the person or the crime. Kinda like "Billy the Kid", there's just no imagination anymore. :)

Ktzmom, those names pretty much fit the crime. I sure as heck wouldn't want to meet up with someone named "The Baseline Rapist" or "The Serial Shooters."

Wow, I'm 51 and I still have my Barbie.

Don't romantizes the criminal through their name.

I don't play with it anymore, really not for years, I mean decades, a lot of decades.

Cele, I think you secretly play with your Barbie!

I could never figure out what I was supposed to do with the Barbies when I was a kid. I just never got into dolls for some reason...oh wait, MAYBE it's becasue my brothers used to yank the heads off my dolls to watch me scream. That might be a little clue!

Hmmm.......so your brothers were the Barbie Beheaders??? LOL...

I too had Barbies. Lots of 'em. And the mansion and the cool convertible and my grandmother even made my Barbie a MINK COAT!! (Okay, cut up an old faux fur to do it, but Barbie's friends didn't know!)
