Let's Make A Pact

I already KNOW without a doubt I will break my pact, but here it goes...

The holidays are insane, right? With me so far? Presents, decorating, baking, being nice to THOSE people, business dinners, and worst of all, the annoying commercials that just try to heap more guilt (which translates into more spending) on us.

I say we all pick one thing and say NO, NOT GONNA DO IT.

Mine pick for the pact? Christmas Cards. I end up doing boxes of these things. It's time to stop.

First off, who cares? Really do we hold a grudge if we don't get a card from someone? And if we do--GO BACK ON THE MEDS, because that's a really stupid thing to hold a grudge about.

Second, because of my arthritis, it HURTS to write these cards. I end up with a claw instead of a hand. Sure, a claw has it's uses, but it makes it darned hard to wrap presents and decorate cookies.

Third, I'm sick of doing them.

So I am NOT going to write Christmas cards. I'm NOT. And yet I hear that blasted little voice in my head saying--"Not even to your agent? Editor? What about...?"

Help me stop!

Anyone else want to jump in with a pick for the pact? What will you Just Say No to this year?

I know a lady who has had her Christmas cards done for over two weeks now. I say Tar and Feather her. My reply to her was, "I still have cards in the box with cellowrap from two and three years ago, note they have not been sullied with ink."

I here by swear I will only send Christmas cards to those who live farther than 1000 miles away from me. Happy Holidays.

LOL Cele! We don't want to sully those cards with ink! I haven't bought any--if I buy them, then guilt will drive me to do them. I give myself a week before I cave in.

I love your 1000 mile rule!

I agree with you, Jen. The holidays are insane. My husband and I were looking at cards the other day, and the only ones we really liked, the ones that reflected our "style"...we're outrageously expensive. (Okay, don't say a word, LOL!)

I just wasn't in the mood to plunk down $25 for 8 cards (and pay extra postage). And then I figured, well, we would have to send to a heck of a lot more than 8 people! That just added up too quickly for me, especially for something I just really didn't want to do in the first place. I'd rather use the time it would take to fill all those cards out and work on my book.

Hmmm. Guess that sounds pretty selfish. But I'll wish them a Happy Holidays when I see or talk to them.

Shoot. I'll probably break my pack, too. I'm feeling guilty just typing this. =:0

If you get a card from me, you'll know why...

Oops. That should've been "were outrageously expensive."

Not "we're outrageously expensive."

"We're" not for sale! :-)

Have a great weekend!

Michele, $25.00 for 8 cards? Man that hurts! And you have excellent taste!

I vote for you spending time on your book :-) Forget the cards.

By the way, I read right over typos, I didn't even notice until you pointed it out!

I don't do cards anymore for that same reason..the nice cards are expensive plus postage. I like Cele's solution, only send to those over 1,000 miles away. But then again, once you send one card, then you do feel guilty not sending to others.

E-cards are the way to go.

Dru, exactly! If I send one, I'll be sucked in. But I tend to buy cheap cards because it's so much money.

I decided not to have a Christmas party this year. My significant other is upset--but he goes overboard each year--jumbo shrimp, crab dip, filet mignon--plus liquor, champagne. Granted, he cooks it all and does it, BUT it costs us hundreds and hundreds of dollars--not to mention the EXHAUSTION of cleaning for it, and cleaning up after it. So . . . this year, NO PARTY. That's my pact.

Erica, WOW that is some party! Great pact to skip that! Maybe it could be a once-every-five-year thing?

My pact?? No gift cards this year. It's the easy way out, yes, but it just doesn't feel like a Christmas present!! So I'll shop for everyone and if they don't like it they can return it! Another great Christmas tradition!!

And I haven't done Christmas cards for six years. it's great!!

Six years! You're my hero!

A gift is more personal than a gift card, but sometimes, it's just so hard to figure out what people want.

I sent a few cards this year, I like to do that it really messes with their minds. They never know if they will get one or if they should send me one :). Next year it will be fun to see who sends me one cause I sent them one this year. Also I do gift cards, people can get what they want that way, really that is the reason, not because I am too lazy to figure it out, really, REALLY.
