Alpha

First off, I hate insurance companies.Okay, never mind I just deleted a long rant on this. Suffice it to say I am so pissed it's giving me a throbbing headache. I am so freaking tired of people not doing their job and then lying.

I Won't Rant. I can control myself!

Let's talk about Alpha Heroes instead. Over at Romancing the Blog, Karen Templeton writes about Alphas. She has an interesting blog and I agree with her in that it's fun to fall in love with a guy who sort of appears to be a jerk in the beginning.

But I look at Alpha guys a different way. They aren't really jerks, it's just the heroine that may be seeing them that way. It's all a matter of perspective.

Here's what I love about Alpha guys. They are very secure in themselves as far as their manhood goes. They don't need to bully those weaker than them UNLESS the weaker person asks for it. For instance, if a jerkoff is harassing a woman, Alpha Guy will use his strength to scare the crap out of that jerkoff.

Last night hubby and I were watching 24. Jack Bauer is doing Alpha Guy shit to save the world, threatening the family of a terrorist. I am having a major cow about this, reacting as a woman.

Hubby reacts like an alpha male--doing what it takes to get the job done.

Hubby doesn't particularly like my opinion, BUT, and this is important, he never ever tries to stop me from having an opinion. He's alpha, he has a strong set of beliefs and lives with his choices, but he doesn't try to force his opinions on me.

Alpha does not equal jerk.

People have asked me how hubby and I get along so well when we are two such strong personalities. Respect and compromise. Women and their Alpha men learn that.

Now, in a romance novel, what gets things hot is when you take an Alpha guy and a opinionated strong woman and put them on opposite sides of a goal, then throw in some serious lust, and you will see sparks. The woman may view alpha guy as a jerk because he's thwarting her goal. Same with the guy. The fun is watching them deal with their attraction, and learning the respect and compromise that go with love.

Thinking about Alpha guys and books is much more fun that dealing with the #*&*# insurance people.

So do you like your men Alpha? Do you hate insurance companies?

That Girl is Random

That's me--the random poster! I am going to get better. I want to plan a new website and blog, but it's going to be a while. I have to have a direction, and right now, I am directionless.

So bear with me with the random posting.

And speaking of random, here's some random things about me:

1) I've become addicted to home design shows. That's hilarious because while I keep my house neat and fairly organized, I am so lacking in design. I like plain and simple. I actually used to be much more into home decorating, then I started writing seriously and my home is suffering. Who knows maybe all this design show watching will inspire me to paint...or something.

2) My evil son got me addicted to the TV show 24. Hubby and I completed the first season and I'll break down and buy the second season before the week is out. The show has huge gaping plot holes and yet, we're totally sucked in!

3) My sinuses/allergies are torturing me this year. Today I can barely see the computer screen.

4) I did not go to the RWA National Conference this year and I'm only mildly jealous that I'm missing out. In fact, I'm only sad about missing hanging out with my friends, otherwise I want to stay home, write and figure out exactly where I want to focus my career. While I love other authors and RWA, sometimes I'm just not prepared for the desperate energy at those events. I tend to start feeling desperate too...desperate for what? I want to be as successful as the next person, but I want to define my own success, not have someone else define it for me. All that said, I'm already planning to go next year!

5) The weirdest thing about me is probably that I don't hang onto books. Not even books I love. I give them away to other people I want to read them. I grew up doing this. I've kicked myself so many times over not keeping more books, but I hate clutter and I'm just not much of a saver, nor do I reread very often. Every other author I know has tons of books all over their homes. I have books...just not as many. Weird, huh?

Okay you're turn! Tell me some random facts! Just don't tell me what happens in Season Two of 24 no matter how much I beg!

Review Makes Me Smile...What About You?

I don't know if reviews sell books, but good reviews make me smile. Coffee Time Romance said about YOU GIVE LOVE A GOOD NAME in the SUN, SAND, SEX Anthology:

Blazing hot, that is how Nick and Lexie are together. This story is a scorcher and one that every reader will eat up. Ms. Apodaca does a fantastic job with this tale and I plan to checkout more of her work.

That was a really nice way to start my Monday and week. How about you? Anything make you smile this week?
